Your Next Summer Get-Away

It’s been a busy time at Le Petit Palais du Port. Spring gets people out and about and, of course, it’s wedding season!

Being wedding season, the Bellarine has several top venues for weddings, Terindah and Jack Rabbit, and newcomers like The Whiskery and Bennett’s are also offering great venues for celebrating special occasions. Here at Le Petit Palais, we have had lots of visitors who have attended weddings at the local wineries, celebrated wedding anniversaries and special birthdays. Our guests can also enjoy a glass of the complimentary Terindah sparkling before heading off for the evenings celebrations!

With such a great time upon us, the private courtyard is full of colour and vibrance from the blooming garden, making a lovely spot for guests to sit while reading, having a pre-dinner drink or just chilling out. In fact, when the studio is empty, I often find myself sitting at the little table in the courtyard having a coffee and a bit of a relax on a sunny day…usually, I’m joined by the terrier pups, Ebb & Flo, who enjoy a bit of a snooze by my side in the sun.

With Portarlington just buzzing, we’ve found the ferry to the Docklands (in Melbourne) has really put the location on the map! So many Melbournians were unaware of Port’s existence until recently. They would drive through Geelong and straight down the surf coast to Ocean Grove, Torquay or Lorne.                                                                                                                             But now, the charms of our small, bayside town are becoming apparent…safe swimming beaches, good ramps to launch boats for fishing and water sports in Port Phillip Bay and fabulous views of the Melbourne skyline. And all of this within a 5 min drive of wineries with excellent eating options and great views! With more cafes and local businesses opening…Port’s going to be a great place to have a summer break!

Port is such a pleasant place to live. It has a small town vibe and the locals chat and smile when they pass on the streets. My dogs are well-known to Chaira, the lovely young Italian woman, who makes & sells authentic Italian gelato at Portarlington by the Bay in the main street. She loves dogs and spoils my little girls with their own tiny, puppi-gelato.

Now the warmer weather has arrived, I usually wander down through the park to the main street every afternoon and enjoy a coffee at Edina while reading the paper and looking down over the harbour. Or, if I’m feeling particularly indulgent, then it’s the luscious hazelnut gelato eaten on Chiara’s deck.
